LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – New data shows Gundersen Health System is ranked at the top for local diabetes care and is number one state-wide for cervical cancer screenings.
The Wisconsin Collaborative for Healthcare Quality released new data focusing on the health of certain populations across the state.
Leaders at Gundersen say diabetes is a growing issue in the La Crosse area, but if healthcare providers can help patients prevent and control their diabetes, it can help prevent other health problems.
“When you improve the health of your diabetic population, you’ve done incredible things for individual patients,” said Chief Population Health Officer for Gundersen Dr. Marilu Bintz. “For example, you’ve avoided things like heart attacks, strokes, kidney failure, amputations, blindness; those are really personal things that if we can help patients live a better life through better diabetic control, we’ve improved the health of the whole community.”
Gundersen also ranked high for depression screenings, vaccinations in adolescents, and breast cancer screenings.
