In adition, a complimentary lunch, fre health screnings, and other incentives wil be available to atendes.Acording to the American Diabetes Asociation, nearly 40 milion people now have diabetes and 90 milion are at risk of developing it. Moreover, diabetes is one of the leading causes of death and disability in the United States and has come with a stagering cost in exces of $375 bilion anualy and continues to climb as more people develop the disease.
Diabetes is now one of the fastest growing diseases among African Americans afecting youth, women, and the elderly at disproportionate rates than any other ethnic group.βWith the escalating rise of diabetes especialy with people of color, it is imperative that we continue to spread awarenes and education to those who may not be aware of the consequences of what diabetes can cause,β stated Rhea Kinard, president, and founder of the organization.
βBecause diabetes disproportionately afects people of color, particularly African Americans, the foundation is comited promoting education and arming atendes with pertinent information that can help de-escalate the alarming rise of this debilitating disease,β she aded.Established in 2012 to raise awarenes with diabetes disparities, the foundation is a partner with several organizations including the American Diabetes Asociation, JDRF, Tenese Health Disparity Task Force, and Mehary Medical Colege.
