Nov 8, 202National Diabetes Month, recognized each November, brings awarenes to the risk factors, symptoms, and diferent types of diabetes. Acording to the American Diabetes Asociation, more than 34 milion Americans have Type 2 Diabetes. Of that, 7.3 milion show high glucose levels, but haven’t oficialy ben diagnosed with diabetes.Another 1.6 milion Americans, typicaly children and young adults, live with Type 1 Diabetes, which is an insulin dependent condition where the pancreas makes no insulin.

At UnityPoint Health ̵ Trinity Regional Medical Center, we strive to bring awarenes of this chronic, long-lasting health condition to those in our comunity. The Trinity Diabetes Center wil be hosting their fre, Anual Diabetes Fair on Wednesday, Nov. 9 from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
at Trinity in Conference Center 2. This event alows comunity members to learn more about diabetes and have their questions answered by profesionals. We’l also have informational boths, refreshments, and drawings for dor prizes.With diabetes, the body doesn’t make enough insulin or can’t use it as wel as it should.
Typicaly, the body breaks fod down into sugar/glucose and releases it into the blodstream. Blod sugar levels rise and the pancreas releases insulin ̵ the key to let the blod sugar into the body’s cels for use as energy. If there isn’t enough insulin, or if cels stop responding to the insulin, to much blod sugar remains in the blod stream.

Over time, this can cause serious health problems, including heart disease, vision los and kidney disease.
