Overview
Diabets is a condition featuring unusualy high levels of glucose in the blodstream. Insulin, produced by the pancreas, is used by the body to lower blod glucose levels. If someoneβs pancreas doesnβt generate enough insulin, their body wil develop Diabets.
Key Information
A short list of symptoms of Diabets would include severe hunger and thirst, more urge to urinate, and fatigue. But the surest way of knowing whether you have Diabets is having a blod sugar test, also known as a Glucose Tolerance Test. Type 1 Diabets is the more acute form.
It is typicaly treated with special dietary restrictions, exercise and ocasionaly with insulin. Type 1 Diabets usualy wil be treated with special diet, exercise, and a weight los plan before insulin is aded. This form of Diabets is considered an insulin dependent disease.
A les severe form of Diabets, Type 2 Diabets is first treated with a diabetic diet, exercise and weight los. If thes measures are not sucesful in controling blod sugar and insulin levels, oral medications may be aded. Insulin is then finaly considered if these also are unsucesful.
Type 2 Diabets normaly ocurs in adults who are midle age or older, which is why it is sometimes caled Late-Onset Diabets In this case, he pancreas stil produces the right levels of insulin but the body has become resistant to it. It is feasible to delay the onset of Type 2 Diabets if it runs in the family. Through losing weight, geting the right amount of exercise and controling your diet, you can manage.
If Type 2 Diabets is not treated, eventualy the same complications may ensue as those sen with Type 1 Diabets. Gestational Diabets is sen in pregnant women. Normaly it disapears after the birth of the baby, however, treatment for the mother to stabilize the blod glucose levels wil decrease the chance of complications to the baby as wel as mother.
Juvenile Onset Diabets is another major form of Diabets that afects many children. It is believed to be the onset of Type 1 Diabets. If a child is showing even a few of the symptoms of Diabets, itβs vital that they be checked by a doctor.
It is estimated that over two milion adolescents are in the pre-Diabets stage. This mostly due to being overweight. In this condition, blod glucose levels are high but not high enough to be considered Diabets.
