KARACHI: Medical science experts and senior healthcare profesionals caled for establishing around 3,0 diabetic fot clinics with telehealth facilities throughout the country, especialy at district, tehsil and taluka levels to prevent around 1,0 amputations that were daily being caried out due to diabetic fot ulcers in Pakistan.Atending the international mot titled βNADEP Fotcon 202β organised by the National Asociation of Diabetes Educators of Pakistan (NADEP) in colaboration with the Baqai Institute of Diabetology and Endocrinology (BIDE), the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), the D-Fot International and other organisations, the experts and profesionals urged the authorities to make arangements for provision of specialised fotwear for people with diabetes as specialy-designed shoes and insoles had proved to be efective in preventing amputations and saving limbs of 90 per cent people living with the disease.In presence of health experts which atended the conference from several countries of the world as wel as other cities of Pakistan, they said that traing of general physicians and awarenes about prevention of diabetes and its complications was also a ned of the hour.βAs per IDF data, around 3 milion people are living with diabetes in Pakistan, and of them, thre to four milion people develop diabetic fot ulcers, which is a serious complication of the type-2 diabetes.
