As the cost of living crisis continues, it is vital that people on low incomes are saving as much money as they can. One way people can save hundreds of pounds over the course of a year is to check whether they are receiving all the benefits they are entitled to.
The NHS prescription charge in England has been frozen at £9.35 per item which works out at £112 a year if someone relies on them every month.
However, there are many people who could qualify for free prescriptions due to their medical conditions.

Britons who suffer from anything on the list above should automatically receive a certificate through the post which shows they are exempt.
If they haven’t, they can apply for an exemption certificate on the NHS website.
It could also mean they are entitled to free dental care and glasses.
To find out if someone is entitled to NHS dental treatment and other help with health costs, they can use the NHS eligibility checker.
If someone is entitled to a certificate because of their medical condition, they should speak to their GP or doctor.
They’ll give people a FP92A form to apply for a medical exemption certificate.
The MedEx lasts for five years and then needs to be renewed.
Britons may receive a reminder that their certificate needs to be renewed.

It should be noted that details on the certificate should remain correct and are kept up to date.
If someone changes their name, they’ll need a new certificate.
If people know they’ll have to pay for many NHS prescriptions, it may be cheaper to buy a prescription prepayment certificate (PPC).
This is also known as a prescription “season ticket”.
A PPC covers all one’s NHS prescriptions, including NHS dental prescriptions, no matter how many items they need.
There are two PPC options to choose from:
The three-month PPC costs £30.25 and will save people money if they need more than three prescribed items in three months.
